Smart and Beautiful Girlfriend spotted something interesting tonight: a rare show of emotion during the State of the Union from one of the Supreme Court justices. When Obama suggested that Citizens United would “open the floodgates” to corporate spending in elections, Justice Alito visibly shook his head and said, “Not true.” He then seemingly caught himself and smiled.
Looks like the Justices are sensitive to criticism, too.

Update: CNN is reporting Alito said, “No, that’s not right.”
I saw that, too. Because I’m a fan of the Constitution, and particularly the First Amendment, I’m very pleased to see Alito defending it publicly.
You beat me to it. We keep having to pause the speech to finish up our squabling, so we only just got to that part a couple secs ago — wanted to write a post about it but alas you already had.
Also fyi do not ever fracking drive on SOTU night. I somehow got stuck inside a police barricade on the mall, took me three days to find a way out.
